Can I Interest You in Some Fresh Squeezed Air?

I remember growing up in the South Side of Chicago during the 1970’s. I lived only about a mile away from a major steel mill. You could literally see and smell the air you were breathing. Back then, a lot of attention was being focused on air pollution and what to do about it.

When I moved from Chicago to sunny Orange County, California the change in the climate and weather was a big one. But, the air quality unfortunately did not. In fact, I think the air quality on some days was worse in Southern California than it had been in South Chicago. If you’re old enough to remember those 3rd stage smog alerts, then you realize how much better the air quality is now, even though the population had more than doubled.

I now live in Lake Forest, California and I have watched 4 cities pop up almost overnight in the last 10 years: Foothill Ranch, Aliso Viejo, Ladera Ranch and Rancho Santa Margarita. Even so, all the efforts that were put into improving outdoor air quality have really paid off. Most of the improvements in outdoor air quality came from catalytic converters on our cars, reformulated fuels and improved gas mileage.

Recently however, the focus has been shifting to Indoor Air Quality or IAQ. Studies have found  that the out-gassing of Volatile Organic Compounds or VOC’s pose a greater health risk than even the old steel mills. Some homes have dangerous levels of radiation from radon gas and the granite slabs used in countertops and of course there are the ever-present risks lurking from mold.

You may be surprised to learn that in fact, the highest levels of indoor air pollution are found at floor level. That’s right where our young children and pets spend most of their time. Fortunately, there are simple, cost effective tests that will help you determine the level of IAQ in your homes and offices. Often the solutions to some of these problems can be inexpensive too.

For those of us living in Orange County, we can simply open our windows and doors and let Mother Nature do her thing. That may not be practical or even possible in many office buildings. We tend to spend a lot of our time in them and therefore there is a lot of opportunity to spread a great deal of airborne illnesses.

Thanks to technology however, a lot can be done about IAQ or the lack thereof. I have been in the Heating and Air Conditioning business for over 20 years and the changes in the technologies have allowed us to get a handle on the most serious of the problems occurring in the home or office.

As an example, ultraviolet or UV-C lamps can be an inexpensive way to prevent mold from growing by killing off airborne spores in your furnace or air conditioning system. These UV-C germicidal light are just one way to clean up the air.

We also offer our whole-home filtration system, known as AccuClean™. It removes up to an unprecedented 99.98% of unwanted particles and allergens from the filtered air in your home.

 • AccuClean™ filters airborne allergens like mold, dust mites, pollen, even pet hair and dander, before they end up on your rugs, floors and upholstery. It prevents odors by removing the majority of irritating particles like cooking grease. Even smoke from burnt food can be removed from the air.

 • AccuClean™ is now proven to remove more than 99% of the common flu or influenza-A virus from the filter air in your home. It is so good; I like to call it “fresh squeezed air!” A recent Harvard University study collaborates this data.

Customer James McCall in Mission Viejo, California says, “I love my new AccuClean™ whole-home filtration system. The air always smells sweet and fresh.”
